What Is DHM? The Botanical Everyone Keeps Talking About

If you've spent any time in the modern wellness world, you've probably seen three letters popping up more often:

DHM.

But what exactly is it?

And why is everyone suddenly talking about it?

Break it down, Mary.

DHM stands for dihydromyricetin

Dihydromyricetin, usually shortened to DHM, is a naturally occurring flavonoid found in certain plants, including Hovenia dulcis, sometimes called the Japanese raisin tree.

It's been studied for a variety of biological effects, including how it affects people who drink alcohol.

But here's where things get interesting.

Science Anyone?

You'll find plenty of claims online suggesting that DHM is a miracle hangover ingredient.

Science doesn't quite support that level of certainty.

A 2026 systematic review of DHM and alcohol-related conditions found that DHM is the shit. However, the review also found that human evidence remains limited and that the available clinical studies did not directly evaluate isolated DHM.

BUT...

Animal studies can tell researchers a lot.

Cell studies can tell researchers a lot.

However, more human research is needed. And as this research is completed, you best believe we'll be watching. Waiting. Commiserating.

So why is DHM in BIPZ?

Because what IS known about it is amazing. People have been using it for a long time with incredible results. We're waiting for clinical trials to catch up, but safety and efficacy has been established anecdotally through years of use.

BIPZ was built around an interesting question:

DHM is one of the ingredients that made sense to investigate for that concept because of the growing body of research surrounding its biological activity.

BIPZ brings DHM together with other ingredients in a convenient gummy format designed to be taken before drinking, following the product directions.

It's not designed to give you permission to drink more.

It isn't a replacement for responsible drinking.

And it isn't an “I can drink anything now” cheat code.

Think of it as part of the preparation. It contains DHM, but it also contains vitamins that alcohol depletes. Creating a 1-2 punch that helps you take on tomorrow.

The bigger idea

I'm moving beyond the old idea that wellness means drinking green juice at 6 a.m. and never having fun.

I want balance.

I want to go to concerts.

I want cocktails with dinner.

I want birthday celebrations.

I want vacations.

I also want to be more intentional about how I take care of myself.

I think other people feel the same way. Do you?

The basics still matter most: know your limits, pace yourself, eat, hydrate and make responsible choices.

Drink Smarter. Eat gummies.

Our founder, Ashley, started a craft spirits brand in Colorado. She loves how alcohol brings people together, but hates the effect of drinking on her body. So, she teamed up with a lab to build something better: a gummy formulated with DHM, B vitamins, and botanicals designed to support liver function and help your body process your favorite drinks. Created by someone who drinks like you. Backed by someone who knows the science.
